Executive summary
Civil and interest groups began a 10-day protest from 1-10 August 2024 to air grievances over economic hardship in the country. Protests were reported in at least 28 states of the federation.
The demonstrations were marred by violence, looting, and vandalism and were hijacked by miscreants in some locations. Widespread violence was reported in the North West, North East and North Central regions, while the Southern regions were relatively peaceful.
