Executive summary

  1. On 1 October, Iran fired more than 180 ballistic missiles towards Israel following the launch of Israel's military movement into southern Lebanon, where it claims to be leading a 'targeted' and 'localised' campaign against Hezbollah and has urged civilians to evacuate approximately 50 villages and towns in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Eight IDF soldiers have been reported dead so far.

  2. Israel vowed to respond to Iranian strikes, and PM Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed Iran will 'pay' for its involvement.

  3. The US and UK have warned against the outbreak of a regional war, have called for an immediate de-escalation and have condemned Iran's attack.
