Executive summary

  1. On 1 October 2024, Vice Presidential hopefuls Governor Tim Walz and Senator JD Vance met in New York City for the inaugural Vice Presidential debate on CBS.

  2. In the first, and most likely the only, Vice Presidential debate, voters witnessed a widely considered even debate touching on a broad range of policy issues.

  3. A CBS poll conducted after the debate found that 42% of voters claimed Senator Vance prevailed, 41% Walz, and 17% proclaimed the debate a tie. Most striking was that 88% of debate watchers considered the debate's tone "generally positive".
